Browser Hijacker
A browser hijacker is a form of spyware that changes your internet options and settings on your computer. Browser hijackers are also known as home page hijackers or simply as hijackers.
If you're computer is infected with a browser hijacker, you may see the following signs and symptoms:
- Your homepage will be different from your normal homepage. This is the most obvious sign that you have a browser hijacker. No matter how many times you change your homepage back to the original one, the browser hijacker restores its settings every time you restart your computer.
- You may see a new toolbar or search bar in your browser that you did not install.
- You may see an increased number of pop-up ads while surfing the net. Browser hijackers can also generate pop-up ads but this could also be an adware program on your PC.
- A browser hijacker can remove the internet options completely from your computer or making them inaccessible so you can't change the hijacked settings.
